Smoke Free for 1 Whole Week!

That’s right. I have been smoke free for over 7 whole days, or one week. For a smoker like me, that’s monumental. I took my unplanned cold turkey quit and rode it out. So far this week, I have managed to go out, drink plenty of booze, coffee, and not even alter my patterns too much and actually feel good about quitting smoking.

How did I make it this far? It was pretty simple actually. After Day 2 of Quitting Smoking, most of the physical addiction was gone. I had no more nicotine shakes, shutters, or anything like that. So the rest of the time was spent focusing on the psychological factors, mainly by constantly repeating to myself “I am now a non-smoker, I am now a non-smoker” whenever the subject of cigarettes crossed my mind.

I have used no cessation products at all, though I think that my previous use of them on other quit attempts helped inadvertently prepare me for this attempt, even though it wasn’t even really an attempt, I just woke up and didn’t smoke. Blah. Cough. Here comes the black shit.

Having a mom who smoked/quit repeatedly I thought I was prepared for what lay ahead of me in my role as partner to someone who is kicking the habit. I guess being the daughter of someone who is quitting is easier than being the girlfriend! Just like there are new rules for Kyle, there are some rules I have to mind, too.
    1. Have on stock sunflowerseeds/gum/chocolate when the urge comes
    2. Don’t talk about anything that promotes stress or discomfort
    3. Be supportive and not do fun things for a bit while he gets more control over his urges.
    4. Have LOST availabe at all times
    5. get a motherfucking GYM membership for my new NON-smoking boyfriend!!!! Yeah baby!!!!
